What is the MOXI laser?
MOXI is a fractional, non-ablative laser with a wavelength of 1927 nanometres. That number says something important: this light is absorbed particularly well by water, and water is in every skin cell. The laser therefore deposits its energy very superficially, exactly where pores, fine lines, rough patches and superficial pigmentation sit. "Fractional" means that not the entire surface is treated, but a fine grid of microzones. Between these zones, the skin remains untouched and serves as a reservoir for the repair process, which begins within the first few hours.
"Non-ablative" means that no skin is removed. The microzones are heated and replaced by the body as tiny islands, without an open wound. This explains why the recovery phase is so short, and it also explains the limits of the procedure: deep wrinkles or scars are not the target of MOXI; fine texture and glow are.
Who MOXI is for
- Enlarged pores, especially on the nose, cheeks and chin.
- Uneven, rough skin texture and a dull, tired complexion.
- Fine lines, for instance around the eyes, on the upper lip and cheeks.
- Superficial pigmentation and a blotchy skin tone — for deeper-lying spots we combine with BBL HERO.
- Prevention — as a regular refresh before signs of skin ageing set in.
One advantage over light-based procedures: because MOXI targets water rather than colour, it is also suitable for darker skin types, where broadband light must be used with restraint. Which method makes sense for which skin is compared in our guide BBL or MOXI.
How the treatment works
Consultation and skin analysis
We look at texture, pores and pigmentation, rule out contraindications and set the energy and density of the grid — from a gentle refresh to a more intensive renewal.
Numbing cream
About 30 minutes before the treatment, we apply a numbing cream. The actual laser time is then only around 15 minutes for the face.
Laser treatment
The handpiece is guided over the skin in passes. You feel a tingling with warmth, which is easy to tolerate thanks to the cooling.
Cooling and aftercare
At the end, we cool the skin and apply a soothing skincare product and sun protection. All the steps for the days afterwards can be found in the Aftercare for BBL and MOXI.
Downtime: the two to three days afterwards
On the day of treatment the skin is reddened and feels warm, as after a day in the sun. From the second day the real hallmark of MOXI appears: the treated micro-zones become visible as tiny dark dots, and the skin feels like fine sandpaper. These dots are the old islands of cells that the body pushes upwards; they usually come away on their own by the third or fourth day. Make-up is generally possible again after one to two days; sport and sauna should be paused for a few days. Scrubbing, exfoliating or acids are off-limits during this phase; instead, rich, simple skincare is important. From about one week, the skin feels smoother than before, and the glow builds over the following weeks, because new collagen formation takes time.
Sessions and combination with BBL HERO
A single treatment already provides a visible freshening effect. For a refinement of pores and texture that lasts for months, we usually plan three to four sessions about four weeks apart; after that, a refresher once or twice a year is often enough. If you also want to address pigment spots or redness, BBL HERO and MOXI can be combined in one appointment: the light takes care of colour, the laser of texture. This combination is our recommendation for skin that shows several concerns at once — details and prices under BBL & MOXI Wiesbaden.
Season and sun protection
Even though MOXI does not target pigment, freshly renewed skin reacts sensitively to UV light. We therefore prefer to treat between autumn and spring, the skin should not be tanned, and in the weeks after each session sunscreen with SPF 50 is mandatory. Taking this rule seriously not only protects the result, but also prevents new spots.
Before the appointment: how to prepare your skin
The calmer the skin going into the treatment, the more evenly it recovers. In the two weeks beforehand, you should avoid sunbathing, tanning beds and self-tanners, because the laser grid is tuned to your natural skin colour. Stop acid-based skincare, retinol and mechanical exfoliation about five days beforehand so that the skin barrier is intact. If you are prone to cold sores, tell us in the preliminary consultation; we will then give you a preventive medication. Bring a list of your medications with you, as some antibiotics and St John’s wort make the skin light-sensitive. On the day of treatment, come without make-up or we will cleanse the skin on site. Do not plan anything for the evening where you need to look flawless, and have a mild, rich, fragrance-free skincare product ready at home. Any microneedling or peel should be at least four weeks ago; if you are considering microneedling in Wiesbaden, discuss the sensible order with us.
Risks and limits
MOXI is considered one of the gentler laser procedures, but it is still a medical treatment. Possible effects include stronger or longer-lasting redness, swelling, itching, small crusts, occasionally a temporary pigment shift or the reactivation of cold sores in those prone to them — here we give a preventive medication. We do not treat pregnant women, active skin infections or skin under photosensitising medication. We explain all these points in the medical consultation.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between MOXI and a Fraxel laser?
Both are fractional lasers that treat the skin in micro-zones. MOXI works at 1927 nm very superficially and non-ablatively, which keeps recovery time short and makes the procedure suitable for darker skin types as well. More intensive Fraxel systems penetrate deeper and have a stronger effect on scars and wrinkles, but come with considerably longer downtime.
How long is the downtime after MOXI really?
Expect two to three days in which the skin is reddened and feels rough. On the second and third day, fine dark dots appear that fall off on their own. Make-up is usually possible from the second day. If you come on a Friday, you will generally be presentable again by Monday; an important engagement should nevertheless not fall within these days.
Is MOXI painful?
With numbing cream, most people experience the treatment as a tingling with warmth that is easy to tolerate. The handpiece provides additional cooling. Afterwards, the skin feels warm for a few hours, as after sunbathing. Severe pain is atypical and would be a reason to contact us.
How many sessions make sense?
Even one session brings freshness and a smoother feel to the skin. For finer pores and a more even texture that lasts for months, we usually recommend three to four treatments about four weeks apart. After that, a refresher once or twice a year is generally sufficient; we set the plan together.
How much does a MOXI treatment cost in Wiesbaden?
The face costs €390 per session, face and neck €470, with décolleté €550, each incl. 19% VAT and billed according to the German medical fee schedule (GOÄ). The combination with BBL HERO starts at €690. A 3-session package is 15% cheaper than three individual sessions. We tell you the exact amount after the consultation.
Can MOXI also help with acne scars or deep wrinkles?
Only to a limited extent. MOXI works on the surface and improves texture, pores and fine lines; indented scars or deep wrinkles require deeper-acting procedures such as RF microneedling or collagen stimulation. We will tell you honestly in the preliminary consultation which method makes sense for your skin.
