What defines facial contours
If you look at a face in profile, the eye is drawn to an imaginary line from the forehead over the tip of the nose and the lips to the tip of the chin. If the chin sits well behind this line, the lower face appears smaller, the nose larger and the neck shorter. Seen from the front, the jawline defines where the face ends and the neck begins; if it is soft or interrupted, this boundary blurs. And the cheekbones give the face its lateral structure — they determine whether light and shadow give the face definition or whether it appears flat. These three zones are connected: anyone who builds up only the chin without looking at the jawline, or accentuates only the cheeks without including the lower face, easily creates an imbalance. The fundamentals of products and technique can be found on the main page Hyaluronic acid fillers in Wiesbaden.
Three zones, one overall picture
- Jawline — a firmer filler is placed along the lower edge of the jaw and at the angle of the jaw. This traces the line, can disguise an emerging jowl contour and sharpen the transition to the neck.
- Chin — for a receding or short chin, hyaluronic acid is placed deep on the bone to extend the chin forward or downward. One millilitre is often enough to noticeably balance the profile.
- Cheeks and cheekbones (midface) — a few deposits on the cheekbone arch and in the deep cheek fat restore support to the midface. This also affects lower regions: nasolabial folds and marionette lines are indirectly relieved; more on this under nasolabial fold filler.
Men and women — different goals, the same care
Contouring treatments are among the zones where the wishes of men and women differ most clearly. Men usually want a more angular profile: a more defined jaw angle, a broader, forward-projecting chin, a straight jawline — for which work is done more in the jaw angle and the centre of the chin. For women, it is more often about a slim, clearly drawn line, a slightly tapered chin and higher-set cheekbones — here the focus is on the zygomatic arch and the tip of the chin, with less material at the jaw angle. Age also plays a role: in younger people it is usually about an inherited shape — a short chin, a flat jaw angle — while in older people it is about restoring a contour that has been lost through bone and fat loss. There is no template that applies to everyone; we are guided by your bone structure and by what you perceive as “harmonious” in your own face.
How the treatment works
Profile and frontal analysis
We look at your face from the front, from the side and in motion, palpate the bone contour and discuss which zone has the greatest effect on the overall picture. Often it is not the one you came in for.
Consent discussion and numbing
Product, quantity and risks are explained; a numbing cream and the lidocaine in the filler make the injection well tolerated.
Injection on the bone
Firm hyaluronic acid is placed deep, directly on the bone, using a needle or blunt cannula and then shaped. We check the intermediate steps together in the mirror.
Result and follow-up
The contour is visible immediately and settles within two weeks. We then assess whether a second session makes sense — for larger amounts we plan two appointments from the outset.
Quantities, prices and longevity
Contouring treatments need firmer products and generally more material than a single wrinkle: for chin and jawline, one to three millilitres are usual, for the cheeks one to two. The cheeks therefore usually come to between €400 and €800; chin and jawline are charged by volume, starting from €350 per millilitre. All prices incl. 19% VAT, billed according to the German medical fee schedule (GOÄ), fixed in writing before treatment. Because the material lies deep on the bone and moves little, it lasts longer here than at the lips or nasolabial fold — usually twelve to eighteen months. Less is generally needed for a refresh, because part of the volume remains.
When the jaw is wide: masseter instead of filler
Not every change in the jaw contour is a task for hyaluronic acid. If the lower face looks broad because the chewing muscle is strongly developed — often through night-time teeth grinding — a filler on the jawline achieves little or even reinforces the impression. In that case, treating the chewing muscle with botulinum toxin is the more suitable choice; it makes the muscle slimmer and the contour appear softer. The two procedures can also be sensibly combined: relax the masseter, build up the chin. More under masseter Botox in Wiesbaden.
What hyaluronic acid cannot solve along the jawline
A defined jawline depends not only on the bone, but also on what lies above and below it. If a pad of fat collects under the chin, the line blurs towards the neck — and more volume along the jaw does not make this transition sharper, it merely shifts it. The same applies to skin along the lower jaw that has clearly lost its firmness: hyaluronic acid can support it, but not tighten it. In both cases we tell you openly where the limit of the procedure lies and whether a different approach or a combination with skin-tightening procedures makes more sense. A filler is the right choice when structure is missing — not when there is too much of something.
Risks
Typical are swelling, a feeling of pressure and small bruises that subside within a few days; at the chin, the skin may feel temporarily tight. Possible are asymmetries, palpable firm areas and a contour that can only be finally assessed once the swelling has gone down. Very rarely, filler enters a vessel — in that case it is immediately dissolved by a doctor with hyaluronidase (Hylase). We do not treat during pregnancy and breastfeeding or in the case of infection in the treatment area. After treatment, you should avoid sleeping on your side for a few days and avoid pressure on the zone; details in the aftercare for fillers.

Frequently asked questions
How much hyaluronic acid do I need for the jawline?
For a complete jawline on both sides, two to three millilitres are usually needed; for the chin alone, often one millilitre. We prefer to start with less and top up after two weeks rather than place too much in one session — the contour should suit the face, not dominate it.
Will my face look broader or mask-like as a result?
Not with correct placement. Width arises when volume is overdone at the side of the cheek or at the angle of the jaw. We work deep on the bone and follow your existing structure — the goal is definition, not fullness. Facial expressions remain fully intact.
Is chin augmentation with hyaluronic acid an alternative to surgery?
For many, yes, at least as a first step. One millilitre of firm hyaluronic acid can bring a receding chin noticeably forward, without anaesthesia or downtime. With a strongly receding chin or bite misalignments, a surgical or orthodontic solution may be the better one — and we will tell you so openly.
How long does hyaluronic acid last in the chin and jawline?
Usually twelve to eighteen months — longer than on the lips or nasolabial fold, because the material sits deep on the bone and is hardly moved. How quickly the body breaks down the hyaluronic acid also depends on metabolism and product. At the top-up, part of the volume often remains, so less needs to be added.
I have a wide jaw — filler or masseter Botox?
That depends on the cause. If the chewing muscle is strongly developed, the contour can be slimmed with botulinum toxin in the masseter. If, on the other hand, definition is lacking along the jaw edge or chin, hyaluronic acid helps. The combination is often the most harmonious — we check this by palpating and observing during the consultation.
Can I have my cheeks, chin and jawline treated in a single appointment?
Yes, this is in fact common for contouring treatments, because the areas are connected and influence one another. For larger total quantities, however, we deliberately split the treatment across two appointments in order to assess the interim result once the swelling has subsided and tailor the second area accordingly.
